PALF (pineapple leaf fibre) reinforcements and technical textiles

For composites laminates, stronger than fibreglass and easy to use with regular resins and processes. Made from pineapple stubble. We provide lignin-based epoxy resing for better adhesion and engineering-grade materials. Our materials are developed with the cooperation of Costa Ricas best laboratories. These products substitute petroleum base products like glass fiber and formaldehyde with an option that takes care of the environment.   

The Solution

The superior mechanical properties of PALF relates to the high content of alpha/celulose and low micro-fibrillar angle (14°). Due to it´s  extraordinary qualities, PALF reinforcements shows exellent stiffness and strength compare to other cellulose base composites.

Aromatic compounds play key rolles on bio-chemistry, being one of the sources lignin. Our low molecular weight lignin, with low leves of contaminants, is specialy prepared for the formulation of hidrofilic epoxy resing, with better adhesion to organic fibres.

PALF INSULATION

We produce PALF insulation blocks for inner wall insulation in offices and other lightweight construction. Auto extensible, non-cancinogenic, reduces allergic and respiratory ailments.  

BIOREFINERY BYPRODUCTS

Apart from our lignin, the cellulose produced is processed into cellulose nanofibres for the spinning of threads to customize PALF textiles for any special needs. 

TIRE PACKEGING

Textile impregnated with an organic emulsion to create a barrier to liquids, acids and oil. This is a perfect replacement for nylon packaging, with a natural gold color, it is 98% organic (polyester stitched), strong and flexible.

Social Impact

PAFiR provides decorticators to families around the piña farming area for fiber extraction and buys the fiber, providing income equal to an additional salary. This process can be done at home at their own pace and time, making it convenient for those who need to care for others and some who have other disadvantages.

Under the lignin / cellulose base, we develop many other composite materials.

Our I + D Team can create new materials at a very low cost; by supporting local researchers and chemical engineers, donating the equipment from the prototype stage. They also provide us with trained technicians, allowing our company to focus on its strengths; production and sales.
